The Origin Story of Birthright International

Birthright was founded in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1968 by Louise Summerhill, a busy housewife, and mother of seven children. Louise was troubled by treatment of young, disadvantaged and unmarried mothers in her city. She responded to the needs of these mothers with love and compassion, initiating a grassroots campaign to support them through pregnancy and beyond.

In just a few years, with overwhelming support, her campaign grew into Birthright International, the world’s first international pregnancy crisis service. Birthright International now supports 400 chapters worldwide, including Canada, the United States, and others throughout the world.

Our Chapter: Tri-County Birthright in Eureka

Tri-County Birthright was founded in 1976 with support from concerned community members. This branch serves three counties: Jefferson County, Franklin County, and St. Louis County. The office is in Eureka, just off highway 44.

Birthright takes a private and compassionate approach to helping moms from all walks of life through the trials that come with pregnancy. Women experiencing a lack of support, whether it be financial or social, can find support from Tri-County Birthright where we believe it is the right of every women to carry a child.

No woman should face pregnancy or delivery alone. At Birthright, women will find support, whether it be just a listening ear, a word of encouragement, some diapers and clothes, or connections to other organizations.

Birthright is a fully independent organization unaffiliated with any church or public organization. We do not receive government assistance but we do rely on donations from caring citizens. The name and logo are trademarks.
